Learning Fractions

We have been learning fractions during our time on Study Island this week.  During break time today, these students were teaching each other fractions and practicing on the board.  I love seeing this enthusiasm for learning.

Mystery Reader

Throughout the month of March we are going to have Mystery Readers come in to our classroom and read  to us.  We had Mr. Shaffer, Owen’s dad, come in and be our FIRST Mystery Reader this week.  He did a great job and the kids loved having him in our classroom.

Thank you so much Mr. Shaffer for taking the time to come in and be with us!

Mrs. Totten’s Award Nomination

Mrs. Totten, our incredible STEAM STUDIO teacher, has been selected as one of the Air Zoo’s Science Innovation Hall of Fame Educator Excellence Awardees!

Mrs. Totten excels as a teacher who implements curriculum that grows passionate learners.  Students in her classroom utilize Project Lead the Way materials  — and their K-5 participation grows each student into an innovative, creative designer and problem solver.

We feel honored to work with Mrs. Totten every day — and as a staff, we are thrilled that she is being recognized!

If you would like a sneak peak into the Mrs. Totten’s classroom, check out her STEAM STUDIO BLOG.

New PE Equipment

Dear Parents,
We are SO CLOSE to meeting our needed sign up to get $500 worth of PE EQUIPMENT!
We just need 26 more kids…that is one student per class.
This does not involve money — it simply involves registering and committing to taking care of your heart through exercise and diet.
Here is a link to the BLOG POST about the challenge.
Our School Page for registration can be found here.
WE CAN DO IT!  Just 26 more kids and we have $500 worth of new PE equipment for everyone to use!

Readers are Leaders

Check out the careers these students wish to have!!  We have many different aspirations from athletes to hair stylists to doctors .

The students are excited and nervous about the mystery caller at night.  Please remind them that this is for fun – they WILL NOT be in trouble if they aren’t reading when I call! 🙂

**One side note about the homework.  I encouraged the students to wait until at least Wednesday to do their homework.  This unit is heavy on the vocabulary and we need to go over some things first.
